• Yahoo! was founded in 1994 by David Filo and Jerry Yang
as a directory of Websites.
• Being the number 1 content destination site on the Web, Yahoo! has many of its own content, which they frequently reference in the search results.
• When ranking a Website, Yahoo! places much emphasis on using descriptive page titles and page content.
• Yahoo! offers users a 'Site Explorer' to see how well a Website is being indexed and, which sites link to your site.
• Yahoo! places more emphasis on 'text matching' as opposed to Google who value 'concept matching'.
• Yahoo! places some weight on older Websites but not as much as Google who value this quite highly.
• It is not unreasonable for new Websites to rank among the top results in Yahoo! during 2-3 months.
• Yahoo! possibly places greater weight on the 'on page' content Google does.
• Yahoo! results seem to be biased more toward commerce than informational sites compared with Google.
• Yahoo! is pretty good at crawling Websites as they have sufficient link popularity to have all of their pages indexed.
